Was One of the Pioneer Women of the County.

The funeral services of Mrs. Enoch Potter, whose death was noted in last week's paper, were held from her late home in this city, Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. M. B. Maxwell of Birmingham, Mich. After brief services at the home the body was taken to Harrison cemetery over beyond Wapello, and there interred. The pall-bearers were four sons and two grand-sons, George and Kossuth Potter of Wapello township, C. C. and 0. N. Potter of Des Moines, Dr. V. A. McClanahan of Viola, Ill., and Frank McClanahan of Monmouth, Ill.
Mrs. Potter died very suddenly at an early hour on the morning of the 7th.
Mrs. Potter was one of the pioneer women of this county, coming to Iowa in the year 1851. She was born in Beaver county, Penn., March 3, 1822, being of sturdy Scotch-Irish ancestry. She was united in marriage to Enoch Potter in Pennsylvania in 1846. To this union was born seven children; one son died in infancy, and a son grown, John H. Potter, passed away at the home near Wapello, in 1874. The children spared, with the aged husband, are: Mrs. J. P. McClanahan of this city; George and Kossuth Potter of Wapello township; Rev. 0. C. and O. N. Potter of Des Moines.
Some years after Mr. and Mrs. Potter came to Iowa they moved from Muscatine county, where they first settled, to the homestead east of Wapello, where they began life together. They resided on this farm until a few years ago, when they moved to Morning Sun to spend their declining years.
Mrs. Potter was for many years a member of the Harrison United Presbyterian church, and is the last of the older members, with but two exceptions, to pass away.
The relatives called here for the funeral were: Rev. C. C. Potter, O. N. Potter, George Potter, Kossuth Potter, Dr. V. A. McClanahan, Frank McClanaban, and Mrs. Dr. Hamilton of Ainsworth.
