Crystalle Leona Schmeiser, 92, of Wapello, Iowa, died Monday morning, February 23, 2004, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center in Wapello. The daughter of Harry C. and Alice Wheatley Dasher, she was born October 27, 1914 at Wiota. She married Orval MIlton Schmeiser on June 21, 1939, at Casey. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1998.
She grew up in Anita and Casey and graduated from Casey High School. She graduated from Morning Side College in 1932 and taught country school in Yale for about four years and then a couple years at Wapello High School before her marriage. She began teaching again in the mid 50's at Grandview at the fourth grade level. She later taught science at Louisa-Muscatine High School, Letts, and retired in 1973.
She was a longtime active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello and a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and collecting rocks. She also enjoyed animals and children. With her husband, she enjoyed traveling and camping, having visited all 50 states and several foreign areas. They were members of the Roamin' Hawks and the River Fork Rovers.
She had been active in the Girl Scouts for many years and in later years she and her husband were active in the Louisa County Historical Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth A. Lillie of Iowa Falls and Barbara A. Schmeiser of Mount Baldy, California; a son, Donald D. and Debbie Schmeiser of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren, Susan Multrone of Shakopee, Minnesota, Sandra Chamberlain of Houston, Texas, Angela Mendez of Chicago, and Scott Schmeiser of Las Vegas; four great-grandchildren, Katie and Kelly Mulcrone and Ryan and Sara Chamberlain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mildred Herkelman and Mary Dasher; and two brothers, Otis Dasher and Robert Dasher.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 27, at the First Prebyterian Church, Wapello, with the Rev. Mary N. Pugh officiating. A time of sharing by friends will be included. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the First Presbyterian Church and the Louisa County Historical Society.
