Age Wapello Veteran Dead – To Conduct Funeral Services For George Reichley Tuesday – Was Veteran of the Civil War

(Journal’s Special Service.) Wapello, Oct. 7, - George W. Reichley, one of Wapello’s oldest and best known residents, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed. Hicklin, early Sunday morning as the result of a brief illness. He had attained the age of 90 years, 11 months and 19 days at the time of his death.

George w. Reichley was born in Prairie county, Ohio, October 17, 1827, and grew to young manhood at that place. In 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Brookhart, and shortly afterward the family came to Iowa, settling in Muscatine county on a farm. They resided there until in 1876 when they moved to Letts. Since that time he has made his home in this community.

On August 15th Mr. Reichley enlisted in Company F 35th Iowa Infantry, and served during the entire Civil war. He was mustered out of service at Memphis on April 6, 1865.

Six children survive to mourn his death, the wife and two daughters, Mrs. Joe Meeker and Sarah preceeding him in death. The survivors are Joseph of Minneapolis, George of Arkansas, Elmer of Seattle, Mrs. Charles Blanchard of Des Moines, Mrs. Ed Hicklin of this place and Mrs. William Runyon of Muscatine.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home of his daughter Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock, the Rev. F. W. Austerman of the Grace M. E. church to officiate. Burial will be made in the Oakdale cemetery.
