Douglas Lee Gabriel, 71, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 10, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. In respect of his wishes, his body was cremated and there was no funeral service. Osborn Funeral Home in Dixon, IL, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gabriel was born on October 28, 1941, the son of Ralph Omar and Isabelle (Fowler) Gabriel in rural Columbus City, IA. Douglas was a graduate of Columbus High School. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army, spending most of his tour in Germany, where he met and married Ingrid Weidner. After being discharged from the Army, he resided in Davenport and Bettendorf, IA, and began a career of being a Life Insurance Agent. He later settled in Mt. Vernon, where he lived for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ingrid of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Petra Coffman (Mark) of Winter Springs, FL; two grandchildren, Nicole Pagan (Billy) and Shelli Coffman; two great-grandchildren, Aylah and William Pagan; brother, Ephraim Gabriel (Margaret) and sister, Marlene Pierce of Columbus City; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Iris Crouse/Hildebrand (Ken) of Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nadeanne Brauns and Shirley Till; three brothers, Edwin Eugene (Buzz), Ralph Richard (John) and Larry Lee
