Esther Rosa Pridey

Esther Rosa Pridey, 72, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Medicalodge of Fort Scott. She was born August 5, 1939, in Gravette, AR, the daughter of Charlie Henry and Ethel Murtle Hutton Whitaker.

She married Vonley Gene Pridey on March 16, 1973, in Oakville. She taught school for ten years at Fort Scott Christian Heights, two years at Belle Plaine, Iowa, two years at Kirksville, MO, and one year at Kansas City College and Bible School in Overland Park, KS.

She enjoyed reading as well as writing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and other family. She attended church at Clarksburg Chapel near Fort Scott.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Pridey and wife Crystal, and Vonley Gene Pridey, Jr. and wife Sarah, all of Fort Scott; one daughter, Ethel Rose Moore and husband Russell of Uniontown, KS; her mother, Ethel Whitaker of Oakville; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers Perry Whitaker of Phelan CA and Charlie Whitaker of Des Moines; two sisters, Bessie Whitaker of Mediapolis and Edna Tate of Climax Springs, MO.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father.

Graveside services were conducted at 9 a.m. September 26, 2011 in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Those officiating were Revs Davis Tucker and Reuben Lowery. Music was provided by two granddaughters, Angela Morre and Myranda Pridey. Two friends from teacing days, Betty Tucker and LoiS Ann Query, sang “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”
