Robert Leroy Stanton - Morning Sun News-Herald, Thursday, January 17, 2013.

Robert Leroy Stanton, 86, of Morning Sun died Saturday evening January 12, 2013 at the Morning Sun Care Center. The son of William and Ilene (Pierce) Stanton, he was born December 5, 1926, at Sprit Lake, Iowa. He was married to Gloria “Peggy” Door who preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of the Spirit Lake High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the railroad for many years as a telegrapher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He attended the Morning Sun United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: One daughter, Sherry Stewart of Morning Sun; three sons, Robert Stanton of Joplin, MO., Steve Stanton of Washington, IA and Glen Stanton of Muscatine, IA; one step-daughter, Jeanie Culver of Spencer; one stepson, Roger Small of Kellogg; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Dalton and Ruth Stanton, both of Rogersville, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and nine brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morning Sun United Methodist church with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer on Friday at 1:00 p.m.

A memorial was established for the Disabled Veterans Fund.

Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun is in charge of the arrangements.
