The Republican is called upon this week to chronicle the death of another highly respected resident of Wapello township and an early settler of Louisa County, Mr. Christian Gauss, who died Tuesday, July 14, 1903 at the ripe age of 79 years and 16 days.

The deceased was born in Germany Jun 28, 1824. He came to the United States in the fall of 1852, settling in Madison, Indiana. He resided there three years, and in 1855 was married to Christina Lautenschlaeger, coming to Wapello shortly afterwards.

This union was blessed with the birth of one son and four daughters, two of the latter dying in childhood, and George and Mrs. Henry Wehmeyer, and another daughter living in North Dakota, with the mother, survive him.

The deceased was a member of the Germany M. E. church, having joined that organization in 1857.
Interment will be made in the Wapello cemetery
