Rolland C Walker, who had ties of nearly 70 years with the Columbus Jct community passed away in Sacramento CA on April 25. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Loris (formerly of Columbus Jct), children James Walker, Holly Walker Shaw (Robert), Bobbi Walker Whisenhunt (John), and two grandchildren, Natasha Whisenhunt Martin (Nick) and Kate Whisenhunt. Son Douglas Walker, deceased.

He is survived also by descendents of the Fay M. and Mary Orris Greene family, whose roots in the Columbus Jct/City area go back to the 1880s or earlier, and many of whom continue to live in the area; Joyce Borchardt Greene Edmondson (J Russell “Russ” Greene, dec 1981, Loris’ brother), of Washington, IA, nephews Ron Greene, North Liberty, Jeff Greene, Sacramento, CA, Larry Greene, Alleman, IA, Robert Greene (Loris’ brother) of Atlanta GA, nephew David Greene, GA, niece Dia Greene McKillip, Galesburg, IL.

In Dec 1945, while in the US Army and stationed at Davenport, he married Loris Carol Greene, daughter of long time Columbus Jct. residents, Fay M. and Mary Orris Greene. The popular and widely known Mr Greene (dec 1963) was partner in the Weber and Houston, Purina Feed and Supply Company on Main Street.

Rolland and Loris moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1946 where he worked with his father in the wheat ranching and Farm Equipment business. In 1960 he resumed engineering at Martin Marietta, Denver, Co. In 1962 they moved to Sacramento where he was an aerospace engineer, first at Aerojet, then at McClellan AFB.

Rolland was born in Colorado, son of George A. and Frederica Brose Walker. He graduated from Loveland, Colorado HS in 1937 and from Colorado A&M School of Engineering (BS) and Advanced ROTC in 1941. He enlisted in the US Army as a 2nd Lt in Aug 1941, spent 2 ½ years in the Pacific and was discharged from active duty in 1946 but remained in the Army Reserve till the mid ‘60s. In those post-war years he graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth, Kansas and did graduate engineering studies at Colorado State U.

A dedicated lifelong church member, he was also Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner for over 60 years. It was by of the example and encouragement of Mr. Fay Greene, a Shriner himself, that Rolland joined the orders. He was an active Shriner and Rotarian until his passing.

Rolland was happiest when surrounded by his family. He and Loris traveled extensively, worldwide, but especially enjoyed trips with the whole family to Europe, Hawaii and Mexico.
