Betty Marie Hoben Ohlensehlen, 87, of Wendell, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at home. Betty was born October 11, 1925, in Gladwin, Iowa, to James and Edna Hoben. She had one older sister, Jeanne. She attended schools in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and graduated in 1943. Betty attended nursing college at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, and received her registered nursing degree in 1946.

Betty met a handsome young soldier, Ardery “Dutch” Ohlensehlen, and they were later married on May 29, 1948, in Columbus Junction, Iowa. She worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital and Dutch worked at J.I. Case. Their two sons, Robert and Jeff, joined their family. In 1954, they decided to move to Buhl, Idaho. They lived in the Clover and Deep Creek areas for several years. They lived and farmed in Filer for two years, and then they were able to buy their own farm south of Jerome in 1959.

Betty worked at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital for 23 years on the obstetrics floor, in the nursery, on the floor, and in the labor department. She helped deliver many babies in the Magic Valley. Betty has been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 53 years. After her Dutch died, Betty became active in the Jerome Senior Citizen Center. She had friends in all the senior citizen centers in the Magic Valley. Betty was known for her friendliness, her joke telling, laughter and encouragement of others.

Betty is survived by her son, Robert “Bob” (Darlena) Ohlensehlen and their children, Jim (Wendy) Ohlensehlen and Cindy (Herb) Gonzales and their combined nine great- grandchildren, her second son Jeff (Lora) Ohlensehlen and their children, Kris Ohlensehlen, Dan Ohlensehlen and Andrew Ohlensehlen; her nephews, Larry (Rene) Maxson, Jim Seidler and Mike Seidler; and a niece, Jackie (Gary) Harrington. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edna; her sister, Jeanne Seidler; her husband, Dutch; and her grandson, Brian Ohlensehlen.

A viewing will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Serenity Funeral Chapel and Life Celebration Center, 502 Second Ave. N. in Twin Falls, Idaho. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1301 N. Davis St. in Jerome, Idaho. Pastor Lance Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho.
