Keith Forbes, 79, of Iowa City, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree. Funeral services for Keith were 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Lone Tree American Legion. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Casket bearers were Todd Forbes, Nick Schmitt, Misty Forbes, Kevin Westfall, Jay Hess, Larry Blake, Brent Parizek and John Parizek. Honorary casket bearers were Paul Jedlicka, Robert Brooks, Dale Cress, Paul Foster, John Fobian, Brad Smothers, Eldon Hotz, Wyatt Parizek, Jim Ronan, Fritz Krueger and Darrel Bell. Following the interment, there was a time of food and fellowship at the American Legion. Visitation for Keith was held on Friday, April 19, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Lone Tree American Legion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Keith. Online condolences for the Forbes family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Keith’s arrangements and his family.

Daris Keith Forbes was born on September 25, 1933, in rural Louisa County, the son of Daris L. and Irene M. (Mincer) Forbes. He was a 1951 graduate of Lone Tree High School. Keith was united in marriage to Ruth E. Burr on February 14, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa. Keith was the owner and operator of Keith Forbes Implement and Supply and was a member of the Izaak Walton League. Keith enjoyed playing baseball and softball, bowling, hunting and fishing, going out to eat and eating morel mushrooms and homemade ice cream.

Keith will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth of Lone Tree; his children, Kevin D. Forbes and his wife, Lisa of Lone Tree and Gwen R. Schmitt and her husband, Gary of Nichols; eight grandchildren, Misty Forbes, Angie Kemp and her husband, Nick, Tara Parizek and her husband, John, Nick Schmitt, Alicia Schmitt, Todd Forbes and his wife, Shelley, Michelle Daufeldt and her husband, Matt and Nicki Polito and her husband, Ed; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner and Taylor Forbes, Hailey, Spencer and Macy Daufeldt, Bristol and Becker Polito, Kort Kemp and one due in July; two brothers, Loren R. Forbes, and his wife, Janet, of North Liberty, and Lowell L. Forbes, and his wife, Linda, of Lone Tree; one sister-in-law, Betty Forbes of Lone Tree and many nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul K. Forbes; one brother, Gerald J. Forbes and one sister, Lois I. Cook and her husband, James.
