John Crawford, age 74, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Jones and Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Jones and Eden Funeral Home before the service. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to the American Heart Association. John Crawford was born December 11, 1938 in Tipton, Iowa the son of Charles and Irma (Gillette) Crawford. He graduated from Tipton High School, and later attended Iowa State University. John was united in marriage to Neva Jean Rodenberg in November of 1961.

John had been a resident of Washington since 1975. He previously worked in the grocery industry as a manager, and went on to own J.C.’s Jack’n’Jill in Washington. He most recently worked as an independent insurance agent.

John was a past member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce. He loved golf, and thoroughly enjoyed Demon High School sports; he attended events as often as possible. He was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye sports fan, and a Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

John is survived by daughter, Cheryl Haezebroeck of West Branch, Iowa; daughter, Angela Crawford of Binghamton, New York; daughter, Teresa Culbertson and husband, Noel of Palmyra, Virginia; two grandchildren: Jonathon Haezebroeck of West Branch, Iowa, and Nicholas Culbertson of Palmyra, Virginia; sister, Pat Crawford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; half-sister, Eva Lu Murrison of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; half-brother, Forest G. Baker of Dallas, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Neva, in 2002; and half-sisters, Norine Schilling and Edith Glidden.
