Warren MAY, 81, of Columbus Junction, died Tueday, March 27, 2001 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Mr. May was born May 16, 1919, in Columbus City, to H L and Veronica KOOS MAY. He married Jean HANKINS, Dec 21, 1938, in Dubuque.

Mr. May graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 1942. He started his 56 year pharmacy career in 1943 in Columbus Junction. In 1955,he and his wife purchased the Duncan Drug Store and renamed it the May Drug Store.

Mr. May was active in promoting youth activities, and established the Little Boys and Girls Association to help sponsor local Scouts. He promoted Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball, and organized the first teams, coaching at all levels in teh Columbus Junction area. He served twice as chairman during the building of Marshall Field and teh new Columbus Softbal Complex and he organized the "Good Ol' Boys" fast pitch softall team, coaching them to the 1993 ASA Regionals.

He directed the Columbus Junction Town Band from 1944 to 1957. He produced and directed 14 musicals for the Junction Players, LTC. He was active with the Community Action, Park Board, Planning and Zoning Board and Columbus Community School building projects.

He organized the Columbus Booster Club, and served as its first president. He served on the Columbus School Board.

He directed the United Presbyterian Church choir for 13 years, and served as a church elder and chairman of the building committee.

He and his wife were two of the grand marshals of the Columbus City Sesquicentennial and recognized as two of the town's Distinguished Citizens.

Mr. May is survived by one daughter, Alicia FULTON and her husband Roger of Annawan, Ill.; two sons, William MAY and wife Nancy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Robert MAY and wife Betty of Alexandria, Va: six grandchildren; and five great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four sisters, Cecilia, Frances, Gertrude, and Althea.
