Venita Mae Boyd, age 86 of Columbus Junction, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2012, with her family beside her.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 15, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the funeral home. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Venita was born outside Oakville, Iowa on May 13, 1926, the first child born to Ida Dickey. She met her husband, Jess Willard Boyd and they married shortly after on July 4th, 1943. They were married for 60 years when Jess passed in 2002. They resided in Iowa until the mid 50’s when they took their family and moved to sunny California. They lived in California until Venita moved back to Iowa a year ago.

Venita worked several jobs through her life and retired from the Retail Clerks Union. Once retired, she and Jess moved to northern California and enjoyed a wonderful life raising a garden, fruit trees, canning, getting firewood, making wine, doing crafts and enjoying the great grandkids. And of course doing a little gambling whenever she could talk Jess into going! Venita did incredible needle points that are treasured by family and friends. She was a perfectionist. She was quite a woman. Anyone that met her remembered her either by her kind generosity, her loving manner, great sense of humor or by the ornery streak she had from time to time. She loved her family more then anything in life and would do anything for all of them. She left this unconditional love she had for them to cherish forever.

Venita leaves her daughter, Cheryl Boyd-Johnson and husband Leo, of Citrus Heights, California, and her son, Douglas Boyd and wife, Marsha Robertson, of Columbus Junction, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Lesa Russell of Seattle, Washington, Gena Foreman of Sacramento, California; Michael Femenia of Boise, Idaho; Kristina Boyd of Queen Creek, Arizona; Dawn Martin of Washington, Iowa; Anna Boyd of North Liberty, Iowa; Roy and Jackie Robertson of Gladwin, Iowa; 15 great-grandchildren: Ty Foreman, Taylor Anne Foreman, Mathew Russell, Hannah Russell, Zoe Russell, Odin Femenia, Bryan Martin, Emma Jean Martin, Samantha Gomez, Janet Warren, Pennie and Jason Murphy, Corbyn Evans, Kirsty Robertson and Griffin Robertson; her brothers: Donald, Raymond, Harry Dickey and sisters, Hilda Dyer, Leota McCannon, Ruth Littles, Karen Holub and Margie Knight.

Venita was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jess Willard Boyd, her son, Steven Boyd and wife, Gayla, and a daughter, Janet Sue. Also preceding in death were her loving mother, Ida Dickey, sisters, Viola Hull, Verlee Millspaugh, Mable Pearsall, Helen Nolan and brothers, Frank, John Jr., and Gilbert Dickey.
