Velma Mae Orr

Velma Mae Orr, 96, of Morning Sun, died Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Morning Sun Care Center. The daughter of E.C. Flossie (Swafford) Caparoon, she was born April 8, 1916 at Morning Sun. She was married to Dale Thurman and they later divorced. She married Eugene M. Orr who died May 27, 1982.

She was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School. She worked for Dr. Ray Tandy at Morning Sun. She then worked as a secretary / receptionist at the Burlington Hotel. She worked for Farm Service Elevator and the Mediapolis Savings Bank both in Mediapolis . She retired as a bookkeeper for Sun Motors in Morning Sun.

She was a lifelong member of the Morning Sun United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and financial secretary and was an active member of UMW. She was a member of O.E.S.; Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, TTT card club.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, and one sister Thelma McKee.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating; interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.

A memorial was established for the Morning Sun United Methodist Church.
