William “Tim” Hills

William “Tim” Hills, 54, of Columbus Junction, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at the Washington County Hospital, Washington, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Pallbearers were Tony Hills, Ted Hills, Dennis Pine, Jeff Carey, Ed Peters, Don Clark and Dave Orr. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Gentzler, Dave Reynolds, Jimmy Bell and Godsons Luke Gentzler, Scott Miller and Shane Miller. Honorary memorial pallbearer was Jerry Chaney.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in his name for a business scholarship to be given to a Columbus City School senior.

He gave the gift of life as an organ tissue donor following his death.

Born January 30, 1949, in Muscatine, he was the son of William R. and Margaret Karyn Bell Hills. On April 4, 1970, he married Deborah A. Miller in Muscatine.

Mr. Hills was a life resident of Columbus Junction, a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Mason Lodge No. 107 AF & AM, and a former member of the Washington Medical Unit of the Iowa National Guard. He owned the Columbus Lumber Co., and was the owner/operator of Hills Excavating Co. He was the Water Department Supervisor for Columbus Junction and Columbus City and the Sewer Department Manager for Conesville. Also, for many years he plowed snow for local friends and families. He had a love and interest in the economic growth and city improvements of Columbus Junction. He was instrumental in the recently completed Tri-City Water and Sewer improvement project. He was a collector of Mopar automobiles and was an avid history buff.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Jennifer Hills-Dunker and husband Ron of Columbus Junction, Beth Hills and husband Kevin Carrier of Columbus Junction, Melissa Hills of Iowa City and Jasmine Hills of Wapello; two grandchildren who gave him great joy, Taylor Hills and Drake Dunker, parents Bill and Karyn Hills, Brothers Ted Hills and wife Lisa, and Tony Hills, all of Columbus Junction, a sister, Susan, and husband Ron Staats of Columbus Junction; as well as a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
