Alberta A. Bennett

Alberta Annis Bennett, Black Mountain, North Carolina, died October 26, 2002. She was born October 9, 1911 in Wapello, the daughter of William Levi and Lydia Wilson Hamilton. She married Perley Jess Bennett; he died in 1955 at the age of 53, in Moline, Illinois.

Surviving children are two daughters, Alberta G. and John Henninger of Black Mountain and Jennavee Draper of Canton, Illinois; two sons, Raymond E. and Patty and Donald W. Bennett, both of Lynnwood, Washington; daughters-in-law Elsie, Valerie and Donna Bennett of Lynnwood, Sallie near Forks, Washington and Barbara in Illinois; a brother, Richard and Betty Hamilton of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a sister-in-law, Flossie Hamilton, Wapello; and 26 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, also great-great-grandchildren, who all have special memories of their “Gramma”.

Preceding her in death were four sons, Philip J. Bennett of Moline, Illinois, William E. “Bill” Bennett, Hubert “Duke” Bennett and Perley J. Bennett, all of Lynnwood.

She made her home in Lynnwood since 1963, moving to North Caroline in recent years to be with her daughter.

Forty-Fourth Avenue Baptist Church, Mountlake Terrace, Washington, which was her home church for about 40 years, hosted a “Celebration of Alberta’s Life” on December 1, 2002. Memorials were made to the Baptist Women’s Fellowship, a group which she served during her tenure at the church. She had also served at the Bailey’s Boys Ranch near Pasco for a number of years.

A memorial service was held in 2002 for Alberta at the Ridgecrest Baptist Church in North Carolina.

A memorial service and interment was held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2003, at the Wapello Cemetery. Her grandson, The Rev. jerry Bennett of Belleville, Illinois, conducted the service. He also sang “How Great Thou Art.”
