PROMINENT FARMER IS SUDDENLY CALLED
Passing of J.C.E. Yohe Is Mourned by Many

J. C. E. Yohe, for many years a
prominent farmer living in Washington
township southwest of town, died
very suddenly at his home soon after
the dinner hour on Monday, January
3d. He had not been complaining,
but rather remarked to his daughter
Mary earlier in the day of how well
he felt. A stroke caused his death.
His death came as a sad blow to his
family and hosts of warm friends.
The funeral services were held from
the Presbyterian church in Morning
Sun this Thursday afternoon, conducted
by the Rev. D. B. Martin in the
absence of the regular pastor of the
church. Rev. Livingston and Munster
assisted in the service. The interment
was in Elmwood cemetery.
The following relatives and friends
from a distance were called here for
the funeral services: P.A.Yohe of
Stuttgart, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. C.C.
Yohe,. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Asby and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yohe, Mrs Leon
Younkin, Mrs Ralph Anderson, Mrs.
D.W. Hewitt and babe, and Perry Hays
all of Burlington; Mr and Mrs Joe Jones
of Haskins, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jones
and Mrs. Mary Miksch of Ainsworth,
Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Morris Jones of Conesville,
Iowa; Mr.and Mrs. Rex Swan of Wayland; Mr.
and Mrs. Lee Walker of Crawfordsville;
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones, Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Brader, Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Yohe, Mr. and Mrs. James
Yohe, Mrs. Laura Hutchcroft, Mrs. I.
J. Yohe, Mrs. Julia Archer and Lwellyn
Jones, all of Mediapolis.
J. C. E. Yohe was born in Washington
county, Pa., on July 22, 1850, and
was 76 years, 6 months and 11 days
of age at the time of his death. He
was the son of Abraham S. Yohe and
Glovina Perry Yohe, and came with
his.parents to Iowa in 1861 at the age
11. The family settled on a farm
west of Burlington, Iowa, where they
lived for a short time before moving
to this community where Mr. Yohe
resided until the time of his death.
He was married February 1, 1877, to
Elizabeth J. Jones of near Roscoe,
Iowa; To them were born five children,
one of whom, Gwin Glovina, preceded
them in death in 1893 at the age of
fourteen. Mrs. Yohe died on August 20, 1922.
The children who
survive the father are: Mary at home;
Chester C. and Mrs. Anglesea Asby
of Burlington; William O., who lives
on the home place near Morning Sun.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren
and the following brothers and sisters;
Mrs. Edna Selzer of Red Oak, Iowa;
Mrs. Jennie Giffin of Long Beach, Cal.;
Mrs. Celia Hays and Perry Yohe of
Stuttgart, Ark.; Harry Yohe of Burlington,
Iowa. Mr .and Mrs. Yoho
united with the Presbyterian church in
Morning Sun about forty years ago
and were loyal and valued members
of that church. Mr. Yohe served as
an elder for a number of years. He
will be greatly missed in this community
where all have respected him
so highly during these many years
