N. Alliene Cutkomp

N. Alliene Cutkomp, 84, of Wapello; died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

The daughter of Daniel McKay and Mabel Margret Odle Yakle, she was born November 2, 1918 in Wapello. She married John H. Cutkomp on March 8, 1939, in Burlington.

She attended school in Wapello. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Western Auto and Wapello Apparel.

She had attended the Louisa Center Church, the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cairo, and in recent years the United Methodist Church in Columbus City.

She was a member of the Long Creek Homemakers Club, a charter member of the Golden Hour Club, and had been a 4-H leader. She enjoyed traveling and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Joyce and David Kerr of Morning Sun; four grandchildren, Angela Kerr, Joshua Pretz, Audra and Kenneth Brown, and Jennifer Pretz; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Brown; five sisters, Janelle and Wayne Buster of Grandview, Mackie Krahl of Des Moines, Beverly and Paul Stineman of Grandview, Kay Wiele of Mount Pleasant and Barbara and Loyal Hewitt of Morning Sun, a brother, Danny and Catherine Yakle of Wapello; and like a daughter, Joan Pretz of Columbus Junction.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter and son-in-law, Sharolyn and Vaughn Pretz; a sister, Dorothea Robb; and a brother, Jarrett “Bud” Yakle.

The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with the Rev. Cathy Whitlach officiating. Music was provided by Geneva Samuels, organist, and Alana Poage, vocalist singing “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden.” Pallbearers were Mac Harris, Mike Stineman, Philip Kindig, Danny J. Yakle, Kim Hewitt and Jerry Yakle. Honorary bearers were Kester Gladfelder, Robert Tillman and Kevin Karr. Flower attendants were Vicky Bonneson and Mary Beth Carey.

Burial followed in the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday at the funeral home, where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Louisa Center Church Historical Project.
