W.P. "Bill" McNeil, 79, Wapello, died Wednesday at the Burlington Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery. Visitation begins Friday afternoon at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the church or the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department.

The son of Fred and Chrisella Burns McNeil, he was born July 19, 1904, in Everett, Mo.

His marriage to Dorothy Schneider took place July 23, 1933, in Wapello. He had been in partnership with his brother at McNeil Brothers, an International Harvester implement dealership in Wapello from 1931 until his retirement in 1973. He was a member and 50-year elder of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. McNeil had been president of the board of directors of the State Bandk of Wapello since January 1947. In addition, he had been president of the Wapello Development Corporation, had served on the Wapello School Board for many years and was a long-time member and past chief of the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department. He had been and honorary member of the fire department and was a charter member of the Izaak Walton League of Wapello.

Survivors include his wife; one son, A. Burns McNeil of Wapello; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jane) LaPella of Jonesborough, Tenn., Mrs. Clarence (Carolyn) Bartenhagen of Wapello and Mrs. Ron (Kay) Gates of Mount Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, M.B. NcNeil of Wapello. One brother and a sister preceded him in death.
