COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Mildred Leta Walter, 101, Columbus Junction, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Ralph Jeambey will officiate. Burial will be at the Grandview Cemetery, Grandview.

Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Miss Walter was born Oct. 10, 1901, in Grandview, the daughter of John and Ella Haas Walter.

She graduated from the teachers college in Cedar Falls in 1921. She was a career teacher for more than 47 years, teaching first grade children in the Davenport and Muscatine school districts. She retired at age 67.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and spending time with her family.

Survivors include 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruth, Lulu and Elsa; and two brothers, Don and Earl.
