Clara Wykert

OAKVILLE, Iowa - Clara Rosa Wykert, 84, Oakville, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at her home.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Revs. Chris Thomas and Harlan W. Winter will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by John Zippe. Pallbearers are Jim Massey, Dallas Burke, Mike Burke, Donny Kronfeldt, Bryan McCleary, Jim Deitrick, and Doyle Hembree. Honorary pallbearers include Charlie Kramer, Donald Kramer, Harry Wykert, Jack Wykert, Charlie Friedel, and Bert Eddy. Burial will be at Edwards Cemetery, Oakville.

Visitation is after noon Tuesday, Aug. 5, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to benefit various charitable organizations.

Mrs. Wykert was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Samburg, the daughter of Arthur E. and Ruby Fay Gwin Richardson. She married Samuel Charles Wykert Sept. 15, 1937, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death July 7, 2001.

She attended grade school in Toolesboro, her freshman year in Morning Sun, sophomore year in Grandview, junior year in Oakville, and then completed her GED through Burlington High School in 1964.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oakville, having served as Sunday school superintendent and was active in the UMW having served many offices including district offices.

She volunteered with community activities and organizations including the Community Food Pantry and visited nursing homes.

As a homemaker, she was a seamstress, quilter, helped on the farm, and also dressed fish. She later opened Clara's Dairy Nook in Oakville and later built and operated Clara's Cafe in Oakville.

She was very involved with her family and her church.

Survivors include three daughters, Faye Richardson and husband Brian of Farmersville Station, N.Y., Sharon Hembree and husband Delbert of Lagro, Ind., and Barb Brockway and husband Keith of Burlington; two sons, Tom Wykert and wife Judy of Oakville and Gary Richardson and wife Linda of Wapello; nine grandchildren, Wende Allender, Debi Burke, Geri Massey, Dr. Tamra Richardson, Doyle Hembree, Deanna Bietzel, Delta Meyer, Traci McCleary, and Kerri Kronfeldt; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Henry Richardson of LaSalle, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Leota and Iola.
