Billie Jean Griggs, 81, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic Weston in Weston, Florida following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction, Iowa. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation for Billie will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in her name. Billie Jean Reece was born on September 7, 1929 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of James Harlan and Geneva Opal (Williams) Reece. On February 14, 1976, Billie was united in marriage to Lonny Lawson Griggs in Rock Island, Illinois. Billie was a member of the Indiantown Baptist Church choir in Indiantown, FL. She loved to cook and read recipe books. She always made sure that everyone had the right food and plenty to eat.

Billie was a devoted mother and wife and is deeply missed by her loving husband of 35 years, Lonny of Indiantown, FL; one daughter, Sheila Cleppe of Datona, FL; three sons, James Schmidt of St. Cloud, FL, Peter Cleppe of North Port, FL and Richard White of Little River, SC; three step-daughters, Lori (Roger) Adams of Washington, IA, Lisa Bean of Columbus Junction, IA and Lynn Giesen of Washington, IA; 25 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ivan Reece and one son, Robert Schmid.
