Shirley Ann Ashby, age 71 of Morning Sun, died Sunday March 7, 2010 at her home. The daughter of Gordon and Ethel (Smith) Ripperton, she was born July 21, 1938 at Brookpark, Minnesota. In 1955 she married John Ward and they later divorced. In 1963 she married Darrell “Bud” Ashby; he died in 1995.

She had been employed at Motorola in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church.

Survivors include: two sons; Larry (Mary) Ward of Mediapolis; Jeff Ashby of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters; Paula (Bill) Thompson of Wapello; Denise (Tom) Pforts of Wapello; Debbie (Glen) Ball of Morning Sun; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and her church family; her stepmother; Elsie Ripperton of Minnesota; sister in law Elda Harbison of Nevada; five sisters; Lavonne Rickels of Delaware, Iowa; Carol Mills and Mary Fonck both of Manchester, Iowa; Dianne Mayer of Mora, Minnesota; Debbie Sutherland of Florida; one brother, Donnie Ripperton of Mora, Minnesota;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Janice and one brother Roger.

The funeral service will be held Friday March 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grandview Community Bible Church, with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Interment will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Grandview Community Bible Church and Iowa Hospice.
