Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon, April 29 [1943] for Mrs. Joe Tedford, 81.

Mrs. Tedford died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Bruington with whom she had been making her home.

Surviving is her daughter, Mrs. Bruington, and two grandchildren, Tedford L. Bruington and Ray Eugene Bruington. Rites will be at the Arnold Funeral Home. Burial in Lenox cemetery.

Tedford, Emma Jane Johnston –
Emma Jane Johnston was born near Columbus City, Iowa, October 3, 1861, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Bruington, April 27, 1943, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 24 days.
She had made her home with her daughter, since the death of her husband in July 1942.

She was the daughter of Wm. A. and Rachel Johnston. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Tedford on October 30, 1883 in Louisa county, Iowa. Soon after, they moved to a farm south of Lenox, being one of the pioneer families. They made their home on the farm until the fall of 1921 moving to Lenox where they resident until Mr. Tedford’s death.

Early in life she became a member of the United Presbyterian church of Columbus City, later transferring her membership to the Lenox church, taking an active part as long as her health would permit.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Blanch Bruington, two grandson, Tedford Bruington of Lenox and Ray Bruington of Los Angeles, Calif, four great grandchildren, Margaret and Margery Morris of Kansas City, Mo., Gordon Dee and Wayne Dale Bruington of Lenox, two sisters, Mrs. Louella Duncan and Mrs. Grace Robertson both of Columbus City, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. One niece, Hazel Parks, made her home with Uncle Joe and Aunt Emma after the death of her parents.

She is preceded in death by her husband and a granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Bruington Morris.

Services were Thursday April 29, 1943, at Arnold Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery.
