Doyce Eugene Jennings, 83, of Wapello, Iowa, died Friday evening, December 24, 2010 at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The son of Donald Dean and Grace Jane Smith Jennings, he wqas born on February 21, 1927 in rural Louisa County, Iowa. He married Henrietta June Lingenfelter on June 1, 1958 in Wapello.

Doyce attended the Louisa Center country school and graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1944. He served in the US Army stateside during World War II. He owned and operated the Jennings Sinclair service station in Wapello and then worked for HON Industries in Muscatine and retired in 1989.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello.

He was an avid stock car racing fan and enjoyed all sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed woodworking and working on cars or simply fixing something for someone. He loved mowing his lawn.

His family includes his wife, June; a son, Robert and Marlys Jennings of Algona; a daughter, Grace and Bill Finley of Wapello; three grandchildren, Tyler Finley of Davenport, Lindsey Finley of new London, and Rebecca Jennings of Algona; three sisters, Odena Winter of Davenport, June and Richard Wiley of Muscatine and Dixie Miller of Topeka Kansas, and a brother, Olin and Normal Jennings of Columbus Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Warren and Monroe.

The funeral service for Doyce Jennings was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial followed in the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund was established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church and the Wapello Rescue Unit.
