Don Tisor

Don Tisor, 94, of Burlington, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wapello.

Born April 16, 1916, in Louisa County, IA, he was the son of Clarence and Clara Bouton Tisor. On April 3, 1975, he married Earlis L. Johnson in Burlington.

Don was a carpenter for Carl A. Nelson Company for 30 years. He retired in 1978.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II in chemical warfare.

He was an avid woodworker.

Survivors include his wife, Earlis; one son, Merle (Connie) Tisor of Burlington, two step-daughters, Vanette (Larry) Wooldridge and Marlys (Larry) McClurg both of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one step-son.

As per Don’s request, cremation has been accorded.

The family met with friends Friday at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home for an hour prior to the service.

The memorial service for Mr. Tisor was at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2011, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with the Reverend Dean Graber officiating and military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment followed in the Wapello Cemetery.

A time of food and fellowship was at the Hass-Thielen community room following the service.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
