Maxine (Martin) Corey Pike - 1887-1984

Maxine "Maxie", daughter of Elmer and Mary Ellen (Johnson) Martin was born near Wayland, Iowa on September 1, 1887. She graduated from high school at Wayland and studied for a teacher's certificate. She taught school near Swedesburg, Iowa before her marriage to John L. Corey on September 1, 1912. They farmed near Mt. Union, then moved to a farm near Morning Sun, Iowa. In 1954 her husband died in an auto accident and a few years later she married Rev. Vernon Pike.

Maxine died on October 8, 1984.* place of death was not listed.* A memorial service was held at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, Iowa with the Rev. Dick Clark officiating. interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and a son Cecil Elmer Corey, who died in infancy.

She is survived by two sons, Virgil Edwin Corey and Dean Corey, both of Morning Sun, Iowa and two daughters, Eloise Shaffer of Centerville, Iowa and Eleanor Jones of Wapello, Iowa; and one sister, Helen Grothe of Des Moines, Iowa. *She had grandchildren but they were not listed.*
