Raymond “Dutch” Francis Coleman, age 95, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, formerly of Washington, crossed over on February 1, 2011 at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Colonial Manor Activities Lounge in Columbus Junction with services conducted by Rev. Mary Arnold. The family received friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Colonial Manor. Military honors will be conducted by the Columbus Junction American Legion. Ray was born November 1, 1915 in Anthon, Iowa the son of Leslie and Myrtle (Dicus) Coleman. At the age of 19, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed at Oakville, Iowa until his discharge on February 9, 1939. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served in both the Philippines and Europe.

Ray married his sweetheart, Sadie Crow on January 1, 1938 in Kahoka, Missouri. He was Featherweight Champion for Golden Gloves in 1935. Ray spent the majority of his adult life farming until 1962. He then went to work for Northrup King Seed Company and retired from there in 1980.

Ray enjoyed fishing, driving his golf cart, working in the gardens and mowing. He was always quick with a smile and a handshake, never meeting a stranger.

Ray is survived by his wife of 73 years, Sadie of Columbus Junction; daughter, Loretta Prybil and husband, Carl of Riverside; and granddaughter, Colette Prybil of Ainsworth, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Leslie, Robert, Harvey and Carol; as well as his siblings, Harold, Robert, Opal and Evelyn.
