Mary L. Meeker, 83, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Memorial Services for Mary were Monday, January 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Rev. Al Coffin officiated. There was no visitation. Committal services for Robert and Mary Meeker were in Columbus City Cemetery following the memorial service. Honorary pallbearers were Bob and Mary’s grandchildren. Following the committal service there was a time of coffee, desserts and fellowship at the American Legion Hall in Columbus Junction. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Auxiliary or the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Local arrangements are in the care of the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. On-line condolences may be left for the Meeker family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Mary Louise Johnson was born June 27, 1927 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Arthur and Nola Bell (Moothart) Johnson. On May 29, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Meeker in Washington, Iowa. Mary was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a secretary for the Columbus Community High School, the Dillon Law Office and the City of Columbus Junction. Mary and her husband also owned and operated Mary’s Paint and Gift Shop in Columbus Junction. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowerbeds and playing with her cat, Cali, and especially, Mary loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Mary will be dearly missed by her son, Steven R. Meeker and his wife, Jodie of Mt. Pleasant, IA; her daughter, Nita S. Abbott and her husband, Dennis of Conesville, IA; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Feickert and her husband, Adrian, Brayton Meeker, Andy Abbott and wife, Dixie, Kris Abbott and wife, Shannon, Jennifer Buffington and husband, Bryon; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Bryce and Cole Abbott.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob on February 17, 2006; two brothers, Charles and Walter Johnson and an infant sister, Bettie Johnson.
