Lois was born to Verne and Gladys (Barkalow) Chamberlin, on July 2, 1937 in Muscatine, IA. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1955. Lois married Richard (Dick) Hills on March 24, 1956 in Lancaster, Missouri, and the couple lived and raised their family in Columbus Junction for over 45 years until their move to Muscatine.

Lois was baptized of the Methodist faith and was the nursery school teacher at the United Methodist Church for many years. She babysat for numerous families in the area and was known as “grandma” to many children.

She enjoyed watching her grandchildren bowl, and her passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she was never without her “brag book” of pictures readily available to share with others. She enjoyed collecting any type of dolls and spoons. She had spoons from all over the world and was so proud to show them off. Her birds and her companion, Hopper, always kept her entertained.

Some of her fondest memories were traveling to Germany to visit her son, Doug and his wife, lngrid in 1991 and visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota and Cheyenne, WY to visit her daughter, Deb and her family many times.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Bruce) Tompkins, Rapid City, SD; stepdaughter, Sherry Buffington, Columbus Junction, IA; sons, Richie of Columbus Junction, Robert, George (Darla) of Muscatine; Douglas (Ingrid) of Schwabhausen, Germany; and William of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by brothers, Ed (Char), Muscatine; Lynne (Mary Ellen), Davenport, IA; Melvin (Shirley), Scottsdale, AZ; Ruth Midkiff, Muscatine, IA. Her grandchildren are Dustin (Pat) Buffington, Columbus Junction; Joy (Brian) Gabel, Cheyenne, WY; Casey (Jake) Kilburn, Ashley Hills, Adam Hills, DeWayne Scarlet, Dakota Hills all of Muscatine, and Amanda Hills and friend, Joey, of Bettendorf, IA; Christian and Nadine Hills, Schwabhausen, Germany. Great-grandchildren are Briana and Gabbi Gabel, Cheyenne, WY, Hunter Buffington, Columbus Junction, Jacie, Julie, and Colin Kilburn, Muscatine, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, her parents, a son, four brothers, Albert, Clarence, Roy, and Lyle, and one sister, Rhea.
