Milo Markus Viner, 96, of Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.

Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Kimberly Bowles officiated. Honorary bearers were Jessica Harden, Grant Harden, Bailee McKillip, and Carlye McKillip. Casket bearers were Chester McKillip, Scott Newell McKillip, Virgil Harden, Robert Viner, Deane Viner, and Charles Newcomb. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Letts United Methodist Church. Online condolences for the Viner family may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Milo was born on February 19, 1913, in Muscatine County, the son of James Wesley and Maude M. Lane Viner Jr. He married Alice V. Townsley on May 4, 1935, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2006.

He farmed both in Muscatine and Louisa counties. He owned and operated the Corner Café and managed CJ Lumber Company, both in Columbus Junction.

He enjoyed doing carpentry work and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music.

He had been a member of the Letts United Methodist Church since 1948.

Survivors include one daughter, Joy McKillip and husband, Chester, of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Natalie Harden and husband, Virgil, of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Scott McKillip and wife, Jennifer, of Suwanee, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Harden, Grant Harden, Bailee McKillip and Carlye McKillip; and one sister, Lorene Groters of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant daughter, Joyce, a sister, Mildred Newcomb, and a brother, Gaylord Viner.
