George V. Neal Jr.

Some in our community will remember George V. Neal, Jr., who served as the Pastor of Independent Bible Church, now Hope Bible Church, from June 1955 through June 1959. Pastor Neal was born June 21, 1929 to George V. Neal, Sr. and Mae Horton Neal in Sarpy County, Nebraska and passed away January 12, 2009 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa of Parkinson's and related diseases, at the age of 79.

He accepted Christ as his Savior on December 14, 1947, and on May 18, 1951 he was ordained as a minister. He married Marjorie Ann Hoyt on September 8, 1951 at the Massena Baptist Church in Massena, Iowa; six children were born to George and Marjorie. He pastored eight churches from 1951 until he retired from full-time ministry in 2000. After he retired from his last church in LaGrange, WY, George and Marj moved back to Osceola, where he had served as pastor from 1968 until 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; sister, Phoebe; three brothers-in-law; and three nephews. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Osceola; son, Jonathan Neal and wife, Miriam of LaHabra, CA; daughters, Joyce Neal of Osceola, Jean Thomson and husband, Phil of Nampa, ID, Kathryn Rebec and husband Rob, of O'Fallon, MO, Deborah Clifford and husband, Barry of League City, TX; and son, George V. Neal III and wife, Bonnie of Plainwell, MI; 13 grandchildren; 1 granddaughter-in-law; 1 great-grandson; sisters, Mildred Peterson and Velma Davis; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A memorial service was held at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, IA on Friday, January 16th. Following the service, Pastor Neal’s body was interred at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola. The memorial and graveside services were conducted by Pastor Art Arnett and Pastor Rene Paddock. Pastor Neal will be missed by those who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Bible Church or Hospice of Central Iowa, both in Osceola, IA
