Frank L. Frauenholz, age 97 of Iowa City died Monday, October 19, 2009, at the Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2009, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Frank’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Frank Leo Frauenholz was born October 23, 1911, in Iowa City the son of Frank and Lydia (Mincer) Frauenholz. He attended rural Johnson County Schools. On June 20, 1933, he was united in marriage to Elsie Marie Solomon in Rock Island, IL. Frank and Elsie were lifelong farmers, starting on a farm south of Iowa City, then for nearly thirty years on a farm in the West Liberty area. In retirement the couple moved to Iowa City. Frank was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Farm Bureau.

His family includes his two children, Marie Evans and her husband, Joseph “Roy” Evans of Iowa City and Ken Frauenholz and his wife, Jean of Swisher; three grandchildren and their spouses, Robert L. Evans (Carol), Craig A. Evans (Kim) and Joni S. Wallace (Marc); five great-grandchildren, Codie, Colton, Chelsea, Gabe and Kyle Evans; and his sister-in-law, Cora Maxine Ferguson of Oklahoma.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elsie; granddaughter, Dawn M. Evans; brother, Earl Frauenholz; and sisters, Irene Thomas, Mary Frauenholz, Agnes Frauenholz, Velma Cox and Dorothy McArtor.
