Earl R. Martin, 84, of Columbus Junction, died Thursday September 9, 2010 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Funeral services were Saturday September 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Pastor Chris Hinkle of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Wapello officiated. Casket bearers were Kim Smith, Shane Morgan, Ryan Morgan, Earl Martin, Danny Rickerd and Allan Sexton. Honorary casket bearers were Earl’s great-grandchildren, Dylan Robinson, Kaitlyn Robinson, Alyssa Morgan, Brandon Morgan, Lauryn Smith and Peyton Smith.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery with full military rites by the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100.

After the committal there was a time of food and fellowship at the Cedarcrest Country Club, 14547 County Rd X17. Visitation was held on Saturday, September 11th from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Earl’s name. Earl Raymond Martin was born September 4, 1926 in Aurelia, IA, the son of Guy S. and Estelle M. (Bullock) Martin. On December 12, 1947, Earl was united in marriage to Mae E. Blum in Wellman, IA. Earl worked as a farmhand and at Maple Crest Turkey Farm. He graduated from Keota High School, and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving 2 years in the Pacific on an oil tanker. Earl worked 36 years with the Iowa Department of Transportation as Highway Maintenance Supervisor.He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wapello, and he was a 65-year member of the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100. Earl enjoyed playing golf, outdoor fishing and fixing and repairing pool cues and golf clubs. He was an avid pool player and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Earl will be deeply missed by his wife, Mae of Columbus Junction; his son, Larry Earl Martin and his wife, Tammy, and his daughter, Lora Mae Morgan and her husband, Paul, all of Columbus Junction; four grandchildren, Kimberly Smith and her husband, Joe of Mechanicsville, IA, Shane Morgan of Columbus Junction, Ryan Morgan and his wife, Doreen of Ely, IA and Earl Martin of Columbus Junction; and six great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred in infancy and Kenneth Martin; and three sisters, Hazel Shinn, Frances Moyer and Marjorie Blum.
