Arlene M. Mohnssen, 87, of Letts, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010, in Muscatine. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casket bearers will be Donald Miller, Ronald Miller, Gregg Mohnssen, Ryan Garner and Skip Thompson. Honorary Casket bearers will be Orville Meeker and the Methodist Men’s Breakfast Club. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Visitation for Arlene will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, Hospice Compassus or charity of giver’s choice in memory of Arlene. Sympathy notes may be left for the Mohnssen family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Arlene Marie Miller was born on September 22, 1922 in Muscatine County, the daughter of Clark Elmer Miller, Sr. and Anna Hester (Crow) Miller. On June 26, 1949, Arlene was united in marriage to Walter “Jack” Mohnssen at the Sweetland United Methodist Church. She was a 1941 graduate of Muscatine High School and remained very involved with her class reunions and even typed the Muskie Memories newsletter. She also attended the Iowa Teachers College and taught in a one-room country schoolhouse for several years. Arlene was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church, Muscatine County Human Services Board, Muscatine County Farm Bureau, United Methodist Women, Ced-O Six Farm Bureau, Letts Federated Club and the Class of ‘41 Club. Arlene was a hobbyist and loved crafting and embroidery.

Arlene will be deeply missed by her husband, Jack of Letts; children, Kevin D. Mohnssen and his wife, Patty of Ankeny, Sheree D. Garner and her husband, Rick of Beaverton, Oregon and Randy D. Mohnssen of Letts; eight grandchildren; Karen (Patrick) Hughes, Kristen Mohnssen, Bethany, Ryan and Kacy Garner, Randi (Trevor) Woodward, Gregg (Jen) Mohnssen and Jacob McFadon; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Claire Woodward; one sister, Betty Thompson of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Clark E. Miller, Jr. and his wife, Juanita of Muscatine and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Dennis Dean and Gregory Allen Mohnssen.
