Thatcher Ray Helmig was received into heaven before he was born into this world at7:33 AM Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was the son of E. Thadeus and Cherrish Rebecca Pettey Helmig of rural Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Besides his parents, Thatcher leaves as family his big brother, Holden; maternal grandparents, Mike and Ann Pettey of Spring, Texas; paternal grandparents, Gene and Vonnie Helmig of rural Columbus Junction; maternal great grandfather, Ray Pollock of Duncanville, Texas; paternal great grandparents, Elmer and Lou Helmig of Otterville, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The funeral service for Thatcher Helmig was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Solid Rock Baptist Church at Wapello with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. Pallbearers for the service were Shane Helmig, Parrish and Reagan Pettey, uncles of the dearly departed. Burial followed at the Columbus City Cemetery. Family and friends gathered for a time of food and fellowship at the American Legion hall at Columbus Junction following the burial.

A Memorial Fund has been established, in lieu of flowers and gifts please make donations to UI Foundation and place Thatcher Ray Helmig in the memo. All donations will go toward cleft procedures performed at the Children’s Hospital at UIHC.

The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is providing the care and arrangements for the family of Thatcher Ray Helmig.
