Susan Smith

Susan Smith, 98, of Morning Sun, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Morning Sun Care Center. The daughter of W. A. and Irene (Asby) Thompson, she was born January 5, 1912 at Morning Sun. On November 25, 1935 she married B. Jack smith at Morning Sun; he died August 9, 2004.

She was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School. She worked as a secretary at the Morning Sun School and at the Morning Sun State Bank.

She was a member of the Morning Sun First United Presbyterian Church and church related organizations. She was a member of Indian Hills Country Club and enjoyed golfing, painting, and card playing.

She is survived by one daughter, Sonja Suitor of Ft. Myers, Florida; one son Jeffrey Smith of Windsor, CO; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verana Buffington of Columbus Junction.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Allen, two sisters, and two brothers.

The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May 11, 2010 at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, with the Rev. Jack Edmisson officiating. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

Open visitation was Monday afternoon at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home.

The family met with friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

A general memorial has been established in her name.
