Theodore A. Wheeler

Theodore A. ‘Ted’ Wheeler, 84, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Saturday morning, November 7, 2009 at his home. The son of Everett and Leddie Hindbaugh Wheeler, he was born on March 11, 1925 at Port Louisa, Iowa. He married Loretta M. Carlisle on December 8, 1948 in Muscatine.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre.

Ted was a diesel engineer having worked for Standard Oil, the Port Louisa Pumping Station and the new Boston Pumping Station. He later worked for Northern Gravel and retired from Acme Fuel and Materials in Muscatine.

He was a member of the American legion Post 27 of Muscatine and the Muscatine VFW John Harold Kimble Post 1565.

He enjoyed fishing including for a time a commercial fisherman, building boats, and camping.

He will be deeply missed by his wore, Loretta; eight children, Joyce and John Harper of Fairfield, California, Everett and Kathy Wheeler of Muscatine, Penny and Larry Robinson of Muscatine, Jerry and Sharon Wheeler of Fruitland, Gary and James Wheeler of Stockton, Dennis and Colleen Wheeler of Muscatine, Brenda Wheeler and Rick Todd of Muscatine and Peggy and Mike Garrison of Muscatine; thirty three grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; a brother Jessie Wheeler of Grandview; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda, a son, Theodore; three great-grandchildren, Rehanna and Breanna Wheeler and Zaiden Garrison; seven brothers, Wesley, James, Junior, William, Delno, Walter and Virgil; and two sisters, Donna Jean Shoppa and Ruby Wheeler.

The funeral service for Ted Wheeler was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with the Rev. William Walker officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Muscatine American leion and VFW followed at the Harrison Cemetery, rural Wapello. The pallbearers were Jeremy Nichols, Josh Wheeler, Chad Schreurs, Jeremy Schreurs, Gary Wheeler, Jr. and Chad Harper.

The family met with friends Tuesday evening at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial fund was established.

With appreciation, the family would like to thank the VA and Iowa Hospice for their care given to Ted.
