Richard Schwob

Richard Edwin Schwob, 82, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home in Wapello. At Richard’s request he has been cremated. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.

Richard Edwin Schwob was born February 28, 1927, in Wapello, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Hazel Umphrey Schwob. In 1952 Richard married Joanne Williams. After her passing Richard later married Donna allworth in 1983.

Richard served four years in the U.S. Navy.

Throughout his life, richard owned the Schwob’s Blacksmith shop in Wapello and was an accountant in Anaheim California for 35 years. Richard enjoyed gardening, canning, woodworking, and inventing in his spare time. He will be remembered as a generous man who loved to share his gardening and woodworking with the community and with his family. Richard will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Richard is survived by his wife Donna Schwob, sister Virginia (Ralph) Stone, son Rick (Gail) Schwob, son Dan Schwob, daughter Kathy Jo (Andy) Selbst, and grandchildren Eliana Selbst, Colin Selbst, and Alec Selbst. HE is also survived by step-children Marla (Dave) Parsons, Brock (Mary Ann) Allworth, Burt Allworth, tom (Carmel) Allworth, Ed Allworth, 11 step-grandchildren, Trent Parsons, Kristen Svalstad, Quintin Allworth, Gwyn Stauffer, Amanda Allworth, Adam Allworth, Tessa Yakle, Neysa Volkert, Ruger Allworth, Sam Allworth and Sean Allworth; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Hazel Schwob, brothers Harlan Schwob, Robert Schwob, Thomas Schwob, Petey Schwob, and by sisters Barbara Sheridan and Mary Archibald.

A memorial has been established for the Wapello Keck Memorial Public Library.

At Richard’s request the Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is handling the arrangements.
