Edwin B. Allen was born at Streator, Ill., May 22, 1862. He came to Iowa with his parents when a child and settled on a farm near Grandview. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Shaefer. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Ethel Schenck of Muscatine, and an infant daughter, who with the wife and mother preceded him in death.
On March 18th, 1897, he was again united in marriage to Miss Maggie Christie. To this union were born two children, Myrtle and Lynn.
Besides his wife and children he leaves an aged mother, who is now in Florida; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Baker, of New Jersey, and one brother, Wm. Allen of Grandview.
He died at his home in Muscatine June 11, 1917, having reached the age of 55 years, 1 month and 11 days.
Mr. Allen was a kind, loving father, a kind husband and a good neighbor, always ready and willing to help in time of need. He always had a kind word for everyone. He left his home in the morning in his usual good health, and was stricken with apoplexy while at work. A physician was summoned but he became unconcious before he reached his home. Everything was done to alleviate his suffering, but to no avail.
Short funeral services were held at the home in Muscatine yesterday after which the remains were taken to Grandview, where services were held at 1- o'clock in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. A.G. Washington. Interment in Grandview cemetery.
