Eliza Fitzgerald 1832-1916

Eliza (Predmore) Fitzgerald was born in the state of New Jersey March 26, 1832, and died at home near Wapello, Iowa, April 28, 1916, aged 84 years, 1 month, and 2 days. At the age of 2 years she moved with her parents to Clermont county, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. During her girlhood days she united with the M.E. church. Twenty-six years ago she changed her membership to the United Presbyterian church of Harrison.

April 7, 1850, she was united in marriage to Ezekiel Fitzgerald, who preceded her in death August 14, 1883 at the age of 59 years, 11 months, and 12 days. They moved to Iowa in the autumn of 1857. He enlisted in Co. K., First Iowa Infantry (volunteers) in the spring of 1861, and served his country as a brave and gallant soldier.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald: Arrabel, who died at the age of 3 years and 2 months; Fosdick, who resides near Wapello; Laura Bell, who is the widow of R.O. Chaney and resides in Thomas county, Kansas; Amy Jane, who is the wife of J.R. Syphrit, and resides near Wapello; Grant, who died at the age of 2 years and 4 months; George Lincoln, who resides near Wapello; Mary Ellen, who is the wife of O.P. Dotson and resides in Wapello.

Thirteen grandchildren and also six great grandchildren survive. Mrs. Fitzgerald had five sisters and three brothers. One brother, John Cambura Predmore, is living and resides in Red Willow county, Nebraska.

The funeral service was held at the Harrison U.P. church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.R. Coventry assisted by Rev. C.E. Coggeshall. Interment was made in the Grandview cemetery.
