Edward T. Latta 1841-1916

Edward T. Latta, son of Samuel N. and Sarah Latta, was born in Louisa county, Iowa, September 20, 1841, and departed this life Sept. 14, 1916, aged 74 years, 11 months and 24 days.

He enlisted in Company K of 8th Iowa Infantry Sept. 20 1861, serving two years in the service of his country. On Sept. 17, 1867, Mr. Latta was joined in holy wedlock to Mary H. Jackson of Grandview, and to this union were born two sons, Samuel J., who resides near Grandview, and Frank R., who died in May, 1911.

He leaves to mourn his death an affectionate wife, one son, three sisters, four grandchildren and a host of relatives and sympathizing friends.

Before going to the war Edward Latta united with the M.E. church, again professing faith on last Sunday.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Ermil Frye conducting the services. The Knights of Pythias lodge of Wapello, had charge of the services at the grave in the Grandview cemetery.

The deceased was a member of Blackhawk Lodge No. 281, Knights of Phytias, of Wapello, and was one of the oldest members of the order living in Iowa, having joined the order at Leavenworth Kansas, in 1872. He was a loyal member all these years.
