Ruth Ellen McGaan, 87, of Wapello, died Thursday morning, April 3, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center in Wapello. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial followed at the Edwards Cemetery, Oakville. Music was provided by Bev Parsons, organist. The pallbearers were Matt Gish, Eric Gish, Bob Locke, Gary Buckles, and LaVerne Logan.

The family met with friends Sunday afternoon at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church in Wapello.

The daughter of Jessie and Maude Bell Carter, she was born August 13, 1915, at Oakville. She graduated from Oakville High School.

She married Eugene McGaan on September 11, 1943, at Boise, Idaho. They lived from 1955 to 1992 at Grandview, MO before moving to Wapello.

She was a lifelong active Methodist at Oakville; Grandview, MO, and Wapello. At Grandview she had served as the Director of Elementary Education, sang in the choir, provided the church weekly newsletter, and assisted with the church secretary work. She also served as an election judge for many years.

For many years she had helped provide a home for her sister, Evelyn, and together they enjoyed many craft activities. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and family times.

Survivors include her husband, a daughter Mary and LaVerne Logan, Blue Grass; a sister, Letha Hinote, Unionville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Evelyn, Geneva, Marguerite, and Eileen.
