Duane C. Bonar

Duane C. Bonar, 64, of Morning Sun, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. The son of Glen and Lucille Wunnenberg Bonar, he was born May 28, 1938, at Yarmouth. On July 14, 1962, he married Mery Lea Nichols at Morning Sun.

He was a graduate of Yarmouth High School. He served in the United States Army and Reserves from 1957 – 61. He was a former volunteer Morning Sun Fireman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Morning Sun and also attended First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun. He was employed at Delzell Bros., in Morning Sun as parts manager for over 35 years and also farmed for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Troy Bonar and Brett and Kathy Bonar of Morning Sun; two grandsons, Blake and Brandt; his mother of Yarmouth; two sisters, Joan Delzell of Morning Sun and Glenda Heckenberg and husband Don of Carmel, Indiana; several nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation was Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family met with friends in the afternoon.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church with the Revs. Harlan Winter, Chris Thomas, and Brian Betts officiating. Interment followed at the Elmwood Cemetery. Music was provided by Geneva Samuels, organists, and Gary Van Nyhuis, vocalist. Pallbearers were Art Hamilton, Richard Robb, Kirk Delzell, Kent Delzell, Bob Nichols Jr., and Harold Todd. Honorary bearers were Kevin Edwards, Philip Delzell, Dennis Crow and Ray Boulton.

Memorials have been established for the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches of Morning Sun, First Baptist Church of Yarmouth and the Sunshine Gardens of Morning Sun.
