GOOD WAPELLO WOMAN CROSSES DARK RIVER
Mrs. Phillip Richley Dies at Age of 76 Years.
A FINE CHRISTIAN WOMAN
Active Member of Grace M.E. Church and Woman's Relief Corps
Catherine Hascher Richley was born in Alsace, Germany, Dec. 8, 1839, and died in her home in Wapello, Iowa, June 20, 1916, her age being 76 years, 6 months and 17 days. She came with her parents to this country when she was about 8 years of age. At first for some time they lived in the state of New York but in a few years came to Iowa, locating in Grandview township. Here she met and married Mr. Phillip Richley, her bereaved husband, Feb. 2, 1861. To this union three children were born, one son, Mr. John Richley, of Muscatine, Iowa; one daughter, who departed this life in infancy, and Mrs. Theo. Wilton of Wapello.
At the close of the Civil war, in which Mr. Richley served three years as a union soldier at the front, they moved to a farm in Port Louisa township. Here they resided until about 16 years ago, when they moved to Wapello, where they have lived ever since.
Mrs. Richley was converted in 1858 under the pastorate of Rev. F. Judisch in Grandview, and shortly afterwards joined the German Congregational church of Grandview. In the year 1900, when she and her husband moved to Wapello, her membership was transferred to the German M.E. church of this city. She was also an active member of the local womens' Relief Corps. In the church, the Sunday school and the Ladies Aid Society she never failed to do her part. Her christian character, her influence in the church for nearly 60 years will long be remembered, and though she has passed away, yet she will not be forgotten.
Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her departure, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother, Mr. George Hascher, of Wapello, and two sisters, Mrs. John Hartmann, of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. George Lentzinger of Cameron, Mo.
Funeral services will be held from the grace M.E. church Friday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. D. Froeschle. At 1 o'clock the funeral cortege will start for grandview, where a short service will be held at the congregational church, with interment in the Grandview cemetery.
