Charles Hardman, pioneer resident of Muscatine county, who has made his home at Grandview for many years, passed away Monday morning as he lay on a couch in his home reading a book. He was found by his wife a short time after death occurred. Apoplexy was attributed as the cause.

Mr. Hardman had been up and about the day before and while not in the best of health, was apparently as well as usual. He did not retire at his customary hour Sunday night, being interested in a book which he wished to finish. No unusual noises indicating a death struggle were heard by members of the household during the night.

The deceased was 76 years old, having been born March 27, 1839. Surviving are his wife and three children, Mrs. D.L. Woodruff of Minn., Mrs. W. Kohne and Charles Hardman of Muscatine Island.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church in Grandview Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. W.H. Cannon. Interment in Grandview cemetery.
