Delbert "Del" Finley, 76,of Wapello, died Tuesday afternoon , Oct. 22, 2002, at his home.

Born December 30, 1925, in Morning Sun. He was the son of Lula Finley. He married Betty Marlette on July 20, 1950, in Morning Sun.

Mr. Finley worked as a heavy equipment operator at Alcoa in Davenport and then as a farm hand for several years in the Wapello community. He then was a caretaker of the Wapello Cemetery and several other rural cemeteries in Louisa County.

He was a member of Louisa County Farm Bureau. He especially enjoyed cutting wood in the timber and also enjoyed gardening, raising pootatoes and making sorghum. He always wished to help others in any way that he could.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Delbert Jr., William, John, Sam and Harry Finley, all of Wapello; one daughter, Susan Yakle of Wapello; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one daughter. (Dorothy Kingery)

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dudgreon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The graveside service for Mr. Finley will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Edwards Cemetery in Oakville, with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating.

A memorial has been established.
