Elizabeth Jane Brown was born near Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 20, 1827, and died at her home in Grandview, Jan. 10, 1913. At the early age of 16 she was married to Hayes Wilkinson in 1841. To this union was born one daughter, Anna. Mr. Wilkinson died in 1846 and this daughter, Miss Anna Bennett preceded her mother to the better world, Feb. 6, 1907.
In 1848 she was again married to Wm. McGill, and to this union eleven children were born. Three of them, Jane, Sherman and Mrs. Wm. Erwin, preceded their mother in death, leaving here to comfort her old age and to mourn her departure, James Newton, Samuel, Dee and Nora, all of Grandview township; Mrs. Lizzie Williamson, of Columbus Junction, Ia., and Charles of Minn., and John of Muscatine. Also 46 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
After the death of her husband she left the home farm and with her daughter, Nora, made a home in Grandview.
Mrs. McGill was a woman who loved her home and her highest ambition was to make her sons and daughters good, true men and women and to implant in their minds and lives something of her own chrisitan life and character. A woman of strong faith, she looked forward to her death as to a time of deliverance and of anticipation when she should see her Lord face to face and hear His voice "Who had loved her and gave His life for her."
The funeral services were held from the M.E. church in Grandview, conducted by J.R. Hammond, ably assisted by Rev. Bartlett. Interment in Grandview cemetery.
