Martha Ellen, daughter of Josiah and Sarah Messner Lindsey, was born in Brighton, Ia, Feb. 7, 1848, died at Wapello, Ia., Jan. 12, at 8 a.m., aged 65 years, 11 months and 4 days.

Five sisters, Mrs. F.G. Vandevort, Mrs. Oscar Ross, Emma, Almira, and Margaret; and two brothers, Will E. and John F. with the parents have preceeded her in death.

She united with the M.E. Church at Grandview at the age of 17, and was a member here at Wapello at the time of her death.

Her life has been spent at Grandview and Wapello, having moved here in 1893.

She was a member of the Rebeka lodge, having united Dec. 21, 1906, and they, with other friends, kindly cared for her till the end.

She leaves to mourn her loss her brother-in-law, Oscar Ross, of Letts, Ia., and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Will Lindsay, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. J.H. Billings, of Muscatine, Ia., also four nieces, Mrs. E.R. Jamison, and Miss C. Emma Vanderort, of Wapello, Mrs. John Phillips, and Mrs. L. Hubbard of Muscatine, and six nephews, Arthur Vanderort of this city, Cella Ross of Letts, Iowa, and Harold, Rodney, and Fred Lindsay, of Los Angeles, Calif., Harry Vandervort of Keithsberg, Ill., and hosts of friends.

The funeral was held from the M.E. church at Wapello, Ia., Jan. 13, at1 o'clock. Interment in the Grandview cemetery.

The relatives wish to thank the Rebekahs and many friends who so kindly and unceasingly administered to the needs and comfort of her, and also for their many beautiful floral offerings.
