Hazel B. Plumb, age 100, of Wapello, died Thursday evening, June 1, 1995 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center.

The daughter of Aden and Lucy Thompson Matson, she was born January 16, 1895 at Wapello. She married Leonard 'Leo' Plumb on June 10, 1915 at Morning Sun. He died December 18, 1973.

She was a graduate of Morning Sun High School in 1912 and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College of Cedar Falls. She was a rural school teacher at several Louisa County schools for 15 years. She later tutored students in her home for several years.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 257 both of Wapello, the Royal Neighbors of America, the Louisa County Retired Teachers Association, and the Wapello Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two daughters, Leona (Mrs. William) Sadler of Blair, Nebraska and Lucile (Mrs. Rex) Davison of Davenport; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two nephews, William and Donald Matson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; and one brother Horace.

The funeral service for Hazel Plumb was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday beginning with an Order of Eastern Star service, all at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello.

Rev. Mary Pugh officiated. Music was provided by Phyllis McCulley, organist.

The casket bearers were Mark Davison, Rex Davison, John Davison, Mike Ernesti, Kenneth McChesney and Burton Samuels.

The family met with friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

Burial was at the Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the First United Presbyterian Church of Wapello and the Wapello Nursing & Care Center.
